ABOUT LASER TATTOO REMOVAL...

What is Laser Tattoo Removal?

Laser tattoo removal selectively targets tattoo ink with light energy in the form of a laser. The beam breaks down large particles of ink into smaller ink particles, that can be easily flushed away by the body's lymphatic system.

Who is suitable?

You must be 18 years of age or over. You must not be on medication for acne (Accutane). If you have previously taken Accutane you must have stopped taking this medication for 12 months prior to a laser session. Under no circumstances should you have this treatment if you are pregnant/breastfeeding. If you have any allergies/disorders/disabilities, please let me know upon enquiry. Your previous tattoo must have been done at least 6 months prior to your laser booking.

How much does it cost?

Eyebrow tattoo removal - £50 per session

Body tattoos - £ given on request depending on size

The effectiveness of tattoo removal varies for each client and every patient heals differently. It is a multi-treatment process which isn't considered complete after the initial treatment; it will require a number of treatments to achieve the desired result. It is recommended to visit every 6 weeks for the treatment until satisfied. Typically most clients need between 1-3 or 4-8 sessions for brow tattoo removal, body tattoos 1 - 10, this differs from person to person depending on the ink in the skin, skin type, lifestyle, how deep it is in the skin and how long it has been done for.

All of the above includes pre-procedure advice, a patch test, a full consultation, the procedure and thorough aftercare advice. Please leave your brows to grow as much as possible before your appointment. I recommend this because I can see where your natural brows will grow, and we can get you closer to your natural end result.

Pre-Procedure Advice

Avoid any activity that will cause you to sweat on the day of your treatment. Do not take Aspirin, Fish oil, Coumadin, Vitamin E or Ibuprofen 48-72 hours prior unless medically advised. Paracetamol is fine. Acne medication (Accutane) must be stopped for one year - no exceptions. Avoid caffeine and alcohol the day before, on the day and the day after your treatment. You are responsible for maintaining your appointments.

Do not have fake tan/sunburn on your face/brows/body on the day of your treatment. No sun 30 days prior and post-treatment (re-touch also). If you arrive at your appointment with a fake tan/sunburn you will be required to reschedule and your deposit will be forfeited. I reserve the right to apply my own discretion if I feel that pre-procedure advice has not been followed. It is also recommended to wait at least 30 days if you have them tinted/waxed POST procedure, so your skin has fully healed.

Aftercare Advice

For the first day, keep the area dry and free of any product for three hours. After this time, you can apply SPF and aloe vera. For two weeks, apply SPF to the area twice a day. Remember to keep the area hydrated and keep drinking plenty of water to allow the pigment to be easily flushed away by the body's lymphatic system.

Immediately After Treatment

Following laser removal, and more common on the body depending what lens is used, the tattooed skin may seem “frosted,” giving it a white powdery appearance. Frosting completely covers the tattoo making it appear like it has disappeared. This is a perfectly natural side effect and will for up to an hour, after an hour frosting will subside and you will be able to see your tattoo again. During the first week after the laser treatment, your body will continue to remove and digest the ink and you will see the tattoo slowly start to fade.

Smoking

Keep in mind that if you are a smoker, Cigarettes slow your body’s healing processes, and will increase the risk of complications that could lead to scarring or infection. If you can’t stop completely, consider cutting down as much as possible.

The Sun is not your friend

Laser tattoo removal takes place over many months so it’s would be a bad time to work on your all-over tan. If you must enjoy the sun then at least keep the area being treated covered completely with clothing or use a tattoo cover. Tanned skin is prone to adverse reactions. You will need to keep the tattoo out of the sun for at least four weeks before each removal session so please plan accordingly. Tanning after laser causes blisters which can lead to scarring.

Healing Process

With such an invasive procedure, you may or may not experience side effects. Possible side effects include; redness, blood spots, swelling, bleeding, blistering, itchiness, and body/urine odor. During the healing stage, you can expect to see the pigment become darker or lighter. It may become darker before it gets lighter, but generally, you will see a reduction in the shade of the ink. Different colours may also appear on the skin during the healing stage. Some parts of the tattoo will fade more than others. This is completely normal and to be expected.

Blistering and scabbing are natural side effects of the healing process. It’s tempting to pop and pick at your skin but Avoid this at all cost. Opening the wound not only increases the risk of infection but also prolongs the healing process. Allow scabs to fall off and blisters to drain on their own.

The total healing time after laser treatment is about 4 to 8 weeks. But, what you do during those weeks can increase or decrease the healing process. Healing times vary depending on the type of treatment, the strength of your immune system, and how closely you follow your aftercare. Just by staying hydrated and keeping your immune system healthy you can speed up the process by several weeks!

FAQ'S

Can a tattoo be removed completely?

Yes, it is possible, most of the time. However, there are circumstances that could change that, and sometimes a tattoo cannot be removed entirely. In those cases, it will be faded to something much less visible, but you will have a remaining image on your skin or old permanent makeup. Before committing to starting your tattoo removal journey please read through everything here so that you come to your appointment with a good understanding of the process.

Does the procedure hurt?

The treatment can be slightly uncomfortable, less so on eyebrows. The sensation feels like a rubber band snapping against the skin, which although not wonderful, it isn’t exactly agony either. How I like to look at it, if you can stand the pain of having a tattoo, you will be able to take the pain of removal..

It is very fast, especially on the eyebrows!!

How many sessions are required?

It completely depends on the client's skin tissue and anatomy, the tattoo itself and the machine and ink used.

Can you remove cosmetic tattoos on the face?

Yes, absolutely!

Will my eyebrow hair be damaged from SPMU removal?

Hair loss is not common however is a risk. Brow hairs can turn white initially but will return to normal colour within 1 hour.

Do you offer a consultation to discuss treatment options?

Yes! You must book a consultation appointment where you can discuss your desired outcomes and tailor a treatment plan specifically for you and carry out a patch test.
